Part 2: Separation

Doxim whistled as he walked down the hall to Aunt Arctic’s cell. After that he might as well visit Rockhopper’s cell too. Ah, here was Arctic’s room. He entered a different code and stepped in. So far, she hadn’t tried to escape, so she wasn’t in need of any gaurds yet. “Hello, Auntie,” he said when the door opened. Arctic looked up angrily. “I’ve told you, it’s Arctic. Stop calling me Auntie.” There was an awkward silence as she looked down again. “Fine, Arctic. You know, it’s really a shame that you don’t join us. You could continue your writing-for Mauxin. Maybe even start a Polar Edition newspaper.” Arctic didn’t look up but she didn’t say anything either. Doxim hoped that was a good sign. Finally she sighed. “Go away, Doxim, and don’t forget that it was YOU who put all of us here.” Doxim couldn’t think of an answer to that and left.  Guess not this time, he thought as he strode to Rockhopper’s cell. When he entered, he almost felt pity on the poor penguin. His beard was now streaked with gray and his pirate’s hat was torn and lay in the corner, forlorn looking. He ignored the puffle Yarr and addressed RH: ” Rockhopper, you must surrender or I will do something drastic.” RH completely ignored him and kept his eyes on the floor. While waiting for the old pirate to respond, he looked around the place. Rockhopper’s cell was the worst of them all. The walls were covered with dirt and looked like a sewer. “For goodness sake, you are being very impolite by not answering me,” he said. He hated it when Rockhopper did that. “I won’t be surrendering, Doxim.” RH said. That blew Doxim’s top off. He got too angry and spat out, “Oh, but I think you will.” They were beak-to-beak now. “You’ve bothered me long enough. Tonight I will see to it that Yarr gets sent to the Ice Berg with the rest of the miserable little creatures.” Rockhopper could take no more. He raised his flipper and hit Doxim’s face with a loud, solid SMACK. Doxim saw stars and stumbled around. “That is it, my pirate friend, that is IT!” With that Doxim stormed out of the cell. His day was NOT going well.
